Roy wants decision on star’s Arsenal switch

- By SAMI MOKBEL

ROY HODGSON wants Jamie Vardy to make a quick decision on his future as the Leicester striker agonises over a transfer to Arsenal.

Vardy has verbally agreed a three-year deal worth £120,000 a week, with the option of a further 12 months.

Hodgson does not want any distractions on the eve of Euro 2016 and Vardy will need permission from the England manager to complete a move to the Emirates while on international duty.

The England squad landed in France yesterday ahead of their

tournament opener against Russia on Saturday but Vardy arrived with his future still unclear after the Gunners triggered his £20million release clause last week. Arsenal were confident over the weekend that the deal would go through but Vardy has yet to give manager Arsene Wenger a definitive answer. There is growing optimism at Leicester, who have come close to matching Arsenal’s offer, that their star striker might still stay. Vardy has strong emotional ties to the Barclays Premier League champions and that, coupled with a new deal, could be enough to keep the 29-year-old at the King Power Stadium. Hodgson has made it clear he does not want his players distracted by transfer talk during the tournament. The squad were given three days off following Thursday’s win over Portugal at Wembley, during which time such matters could have been resolved. Hodgson is so keen to have his players focused that he allowed Vardy to miss the friendly against Australia last month so he could get married before Euro 2016.
