Oh no, Sam ...a deckchair dress and bare arms in church!

CAMILLA PLAYS IT SAFE

THE Duchess of Cornwall played it safe in her go-to designer Bruce Oldfield, wearing this blue silk dress and coat (upwards of £12,000 for the pair) and an £825 haute couture Philip Treacy hat. Around her neck was her trademark pearl choker and she had pearl studs in her ears – a tasteful tribute to the Queen. Daily Mail Style editor Dinah van Tulleken says: ‘Camilla knows what suits her. In this soft powder blue, she almost blends into the background – probably a deliberate move to ensure the Queen stayed centre stage.’

ANNE THE THRIFTY

SHE’S known as the ‘Timewarp Princess’ – and thrifty Princess Anne wheeled out a brown and cream embroidered coat and matching dress she has worn four times before, although the black tote bag clashes with her brown shoes, gloves and hat. ‘It’s hardly the most flattering look, but this is a classic cut that keeps on giving,’ Dinah explains. ‘She has kept her size 10 figure and this coat shows it off. The brown accessories are all wrong, but the embroidered detail is curiously on-trend.’

CHERIE GETS IT WRONG AGAIN

A FAMILIAR fashion mis-step for Cherie Blair, 61, whose pale grey dress and white coat with matching satin trim hung loosely and did her figure no favours. Her hat – a curled ribbon design – was sitting way too far back on her head. ‘Grey is draining at a certain age and Cherie looks washed out,’ Dinah explains. ‘The coat is too long, making her look shorter, and the pale, insipid colour does nothing to shrink her waist.’

BEA AND EUGENIE CATCH THE EYE

YET another eye-catching look from Prince Andrew’s girls at their grandmother’s birthday celebrations. Princess Beatrice, 27, wore a £2,995 hand-embroidered monochrome coat from Burberry. Eugenie, 26, was in a £1, 50 scarlet dress by bespoke London brand Eponine, with striking cut-out sections around her bust. Both sisters wore killer black heels – the same ones they wore on Easter Sunday – and small, bow-shaped hats.

STRIPEY SAMCAM’S RARE FAUX PAS

THE Prime Minister’s wife, 5, made a rare fashion faux pas in this blue-and-white striped midi dress by high street designer LK Bennett (£225). Observers drew comparisons with a striped deckchair, while many criticised her decision to bare her shoulders and forgo a jacket on such a formal occasion. Her hat is a sombre black netted design by Gina Foster, where designs cost upwards of £550. ‘She looks like she’s dressed for a day at the beach,’ says Dinah. ‘The hat doesn’t work with the dress – it flattens her hair and almost obscures her face. She looks underdressed and dowdy.’
