Would you rather look at trees -- or 350 homes?

-

UNLIKE Mr and Mrs O’Donnell, of Sherborne, Dorset, who complained about overgrown trees taking their light (Mail), I would prefer the Woodland Trust to come and plant trees where we live because our Green Belt is under threat of being built on by 350 houses. At present, we enjoy a 180degree view of countryside, and we would rather have the chore of trimming trees than being overlooked by houses. Because of the building plans, we will lose our view of Huddersfield’s famous Victoria tower and all our wildlife. The O’Donnells should stop moaning and be thankful for their privacy.

Mrs S. CLEGG, Huddersfield, W. Yorks. MAX HASTINGS is upset at the sight of one turbine — come to the Welsh valleys, which is a dumping ground for wind farms. We have got rid of all the coal tips, the valleys are green and beautiful once more. But behind my house there are 16 turbines and the nearby village has 12 towering over it. Now under construction on the opposite side of the mountain are 76 — yes, that’s right, 76 — turbines. We did object, of course, but no notice was taken. The farmers and forestry people benefit and the villages get £50,000 a year to be spent on local projects as a sweetener for all the devastation caused. Our winds are no different to England’s, so most of the time the blades are not turning. How manyMPs would tolerate turbines in front of their houses?
