EDMUND’S BEST WIN YET
KYLE EDMUND underlined his status as Britain’s top prospect when he collected the most prestigious scalp of his career by beating Gilles Simon. The 21-year-old Yorkshireman went past France’s world No 18 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to make the second round of the Aegon Championships — his first win over a player ranked in the top 40. Edmund, who dominated after a third-set rain delay, nows meets another Frenchman in Paul Henri Mathieu, 34. He beat Dan Evans 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 — the Briton wasting three set points in the opening tiebreak.
