Don’t cross Dr Discipline!

- GRAHAM POLL

GERMAN referee Dr Felix Brych makes his European Championship bow in England’s key match with Wales — but he is no stranger to either team or local rivalries. Brych was in charge when Wales beat Belgium 1-0 in qualifying last year, while the Munich-based official refereed England’s 3-2 friendly win over Scotland at Wembley in 2013. Brych can be inconsistent and he often comes up with a red card in big games. He dismissed Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Torres in the Champions League quarter-final while ignoring misdeeds by Barcelona’s Luis Suarez. At World Cup 2014, Brych sent off one player, Uruguay’s Maxi Pereira, and cautioned six in his two matches. English teams lost all three games he oversaw in the Champions League over the past two seasons. But all that will be forgotten today — just don’t be surprised if someone sees red.
