We won’t wind up England

- LAURIE WHITWELL reports from Lens

Wales will guard against winding up england’s players on the pitch in the knowledge that the likes of Dele alli and Jamie Vardy perform better when provoked.

andy King and Ben Davies have revealed respective club teammates at leicester and Tottenham are at their best when operating on the edge.

Vardy, who has been subject of calls for inclusion after his absence against Russia, received an extra game ban for reacting furiously to a red card from Jon Moss at the end of last season.

alli, meanwhile, did not play in the final three games of spurs’ campaign after receiving a retrospective ban for punching West Brom’s Claudio Yacob. But King and Davies said those incidents are not necessarily a means of gaining an advantage. ‘You have to be careful with Vards,’ said the leicester midfielder. ‘If you get under his skin he can make you pay. ‘You have seen the way he plays, he’s an aggressive sort of player. sometimes at leicester we try and get into him because we know if he is firing on all cylinders then you have a good chance of winning the game.’

Davies compared alli (left) to Wales team-mate aaron Ramsey for calibre and admitted jokes had been made about his knockout potential.

‘You can have a laugh,’ said Davies. ‘sometimes you don’t get the player he is without the fight as well.

‘He’s one of those players who you could wind up and he’ll stick the ball in the top corner, so it’s not always wise.’
