PLEASANT SURPRISE

ITALY’S performance really surprised me. They executed their plan perfectly, with three at the back and two strikers. They’ve always been calm defensively, but now it looks like they’re calm in possession, too. There’s no Andrea Pirlo in this squad, but centre back Leonardo Bonucci does a superb job of playing the ball out from the back and hitting those killer passes from deep.
