I’m not convinced by this Germany

-

NOW, here are two teams who know a lot about each other! Not only are they big rivals but they were in the same qualifying group and both won at home, so this one could be tight.

Germany won their opening game against Ukraine easily, but I’m still not entirely convinced by them. They completely hogged possession in that match, and as England demonstrated against Russia, having all of the ball doesn’t guarantee you success. Even Spain — masters in possession — struggled to break down Czech Republic on Monday, not scoring until the 87th minute.

And if you play this way, you still need a striker who can stick it in the back of the net, and Mario Gotze doesn’t really give them that.

In Robert Lewandowski, Poland have one of the hottest strikers in world football. He’s played his club football in Germany since 2010 and will be keen to get one over many of his Bayern Munich team-mates.

VERDICT: Germany win.

KEY STAT: Germany have scored in each of their last 14 games at major tournaments. The last time they failed to find the net at the Euros was in the 2008 final (0-1 v Spain).

BIG MATCH BET: Arkadiusz Milik proved he was more than Lewandowski’s wing man with the winner against Northern Ireland. He’s 7-2 to score at any time.
