French staff hang effigy of British boss
FRENCH bootmakers hanged an effigy of their British boss from a mocked-up gallows after she was brought in to shake up working practices.
They even burnt a Union Flag when Beverley Williams introduced hi-tech equipment at Le Chameau’s Normandy factory.
The luxury footwear company, whose boots cost up to £340 a pair and are worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, was bought by a London investment firm in 2012.
Miss Williams, a former boss of lingerie brand La Senza, enraged workers at the end of last year over plans to move production to Morocco.
‘I was not the most popular person – they would have preferred a French boss,’ Miss Williams told the Sunday Times.
But, she insisted, ‘We can’t stay stuck in the past.’
The company failed to respond to requests for a comment yesterday, while Miss Williams, 62, could not be reached.
