Bangladesh tour in doubt

- PAUL NEWMAN

THE Bangladesh Cricket Board yesterday admitted that it will be difficult for England’s tour to go ahead later this year after the terrorist attack in Dhaka that saw 20 people killed. Sheikh Sohel, a director of the BCB, fears that Bangladesh could follow Pakistan into international exile after the atrocity in a cafe in an upmarket suburb of the capital where foreigners were specifically targeted. ‘If England opt not to come then we won’t have anything to say,’ Sohel told a local news agency. ‘Never before have we witnessed something like this in our country. If these things continue to happen we will become abandoned by other cricket-playing nations.’ The ECB reacted to the attack by saying they were prepared to abandon the tour, due for October, if they continue to have fears for the safety of England players. However, a spokesman added yesterday that no talks have yet been held with the BCB.
