NIKE SHIRT A BAD FIT

ONE last point about England’s performance at these finals. We are told the players should ‘play for the shirt’. But what shirt? The kit that England were given here was an abomination, designed to promote Nike, not represent the country, and — delightfully — it has bombed commercially. The first thing the new manager should insist on is that the next contract delivers a white shirt, navy blue shorts and white socks. And that way, even if we can’t play like England, we will at least look like them.
