Two of the world’s richest men just got even richer
TWO of the world’s richest men have scooped another windfall by cashing in on their booming empires.
Jeff Bezos, 52, (left), founder of online retail giant Amazon, became the third-richest man on the planet as Amazon shares climbed on a strong trading update.
Amazon, which Bezos set up in his Seattle garage in 1994 and still owns 18pc of, reported that revenues rose 31pc year-on-year in the second quarter to £22.93bn. Shares climbed up 2pc giving a boost to Bezos’s wealth, estimated to be £49.5bn.
Meanwhile, Larry Ellison, 71, ( right) chairman of tech firm Oracle, revealed the business is buying software firm NetSuite for £7bn, in which he has a 41.3pc stake.
The move will net him £2.6bn – he is already reportedly worth £39bn.
Bald, father-of-four Bezos is notorious for his attention to detail, which borders upon the maniacal, and a hyena-like laugh.
Ellison, meanwhile, rose from humble beginnings to set up Oracle, which earned him a vast fortune rivalled in size only by his extraordinary ego.
His earthly spoils include a MiG-29 fighter jet and a tropical island.
