Project Fear BOOSTED Brexit vote

-

DAVID Cameron’s campaigning during the EU referendum drove twice as many voters to back Brexit as to support Remain, a report has found.

Voters felt ill-informed and disenchanted by the interventions of politicians including the then prime minister, according to research by the Electoral Reform Society.

Nearly a third of voters ( 9 per cent) said Mr Cameron’s lobbying for Remain as part of Project Fear made them more likely to back Brexit. Only 14 per cent said he made them more likely to vote to stay in the EU.

The researchers said many voters ‘simply did not trust the veracity of certain claims made by both sides’.

But Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and even Donald Trump helped rally support for Brexit. Some 9 per cent of those polled said Mr Johnson made them more likely to vote Leave, compared with 14 per cent who said he made them want to vote Remain.
