Tragedy of PC left haunted by police murders
A FORMER PC who was one of the first on the scene of the murder of two policewomen has been found dead.
Andrew Summerscales, 46, was said to have been badly affected by the killing of Nicola Hughes, 23, and Fiona Bone, 32, in September 2012 by oneeyed gangster Dale Cregan, pictured. Cregan, who was already wanted for the murder of a father and son, lured the two policewomen with a bogus call before killing them in a gun and grenade attack in Hattersley, near Manchester. He was jailed for life.
Mr Summerscales’s body was found at 7.20am on Tuesday in Cheetham Park, Stalybridge, four miles from the murder scene. He left Greater Manchester Police in November after 15 years. There are no suspicious circumstances. A file has been sent to the coroner.
