Bungalows take life to another level!

...and who wants to vacuum the stairs, anyway?

-

rOss CLArk’s description of bungalow living left me with mixed feelings (mail). he complains of living in sixties style in the eighties, but this wasn’t the fault of the home itself but of the owners for not keeping it up-to-date with current trends. I dread the thought today of pinecladding, polystyrene ceiling tiles or a leather-look bar in the lounge, complete with optics! modern single-level living offers easy, open-plan, inside-to-outside flowing luxury, which is something aspired to by many in this busy age when people have limited leisure time. After all, who wants to spend time vacuuming or decorating the stairs? Too many people have a stereotypical view of bungalows. They should think again. A bungalow doesn’t have to be a tiny, semi-detached box. They’re ideal for families with young children — no chance of falling down the stairs. my daughter and her husband live in a single-level home in new Zealand (where probably half of all homes are single-level), but wouldn’t contemplate living in a bungalow before they emigrated because of the stigma attached to it. The only reason why fewer bungalows are being built these days is that they take up more land. give me a large, seventies, detached bungalow with wrap-around garden any day rather than a three-storey box on a postage-stamp-sized plot in the middle of a huge estate. But then, I am over 60.
