Strictly the gent! How Ed helped girl stuck with him at a bus stop
HE said he was ‘madly disappointed’ after letting down his partner on the Strictly dance floor.
So after getting stuck at a bus stop, Ed Balls was determined not to leave another young woman in the lurch – and this time he gave a ten out of ten performance.
After waiting more than ten minutes for the bus in north London yesterday, the 49year-old gave up and hailed a passing cab to the nearest train station.
However, displaying his gentlemanly side, he offered a lift to the fellow traveller who had also been waiting at the stop.
Clutching her phone and a Sainsbury’s bag, the red- haired woman seemed somewhat amused by the former shadow chancellor’s offer – but nonetheless joined him in the car.
It came after Balls failed to impress the BBC Strictly judges on Saturday night.
His ‘pedestrian’ waltz saw him and partner Katya Jones at the bottom of the judge’s leaderboard, with a meagre 21 points. Afterwards the former MP said he done ‘massively better in rehearsals’ and felt he had ‘let down’ Miss Jones.
He added: ‘We started from a low base but the truth is we are madly disappointed.
‘It would have been so much better but I messed up the turns which I have done so many times. As a result I never really did get through the rest of it the best that I could.’
However head judge Len Goodman said he was ‘pleasantly surprised’ with Balls’ effort, while Darcey Bussell said there were ‘glimmers of a nice elegant gentleman’.
Balls was part of the second group of celebrities to hit the dance floor. Model Daisy Lowe flew to the top of the leaderboard with 32 points following her near-flawless waltz with partner Aljaz Skorjanec.
