Donna Air: I was treated for stress in Alpine clinic

She struggled after James Middleton split

- By Tammy Hughes

DONNA Air has admitted she was ‘desperate to get away from it all’ and received treatment for stress last year, when she temporarily split from James Middleton.

The TV presenter and actress checked into an exclusive Alpine clinic where she underwent a strict regime including ‘aerial yoga’ and daily vitamin infusions.

Miss Air, 37, and 29-year-old Mr Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger brother – ended their relationship in February last year after dating for three years.

They got back together four months later and are now even hinting at marriage. But the actress has revealed how life took its toll on her last year, saying: ‘ What a year 2016 was. Like many I’m sure I was desperate to get away from it all, leaving the headlines behind and giving myself some serious me time. I had been running on adrenaline and skinny lattes for too long and wanted to rest, re-set and completely re-boot.’

Miss Air travelled to Vivamayr in the Austrian Alps, a ‘medical spa’ where a week’s detox costs more than £1,000.

Referring to the break, she said: ‘Thanks to its notoriously strict reputation, I knew Vivamayr meant business but also sensational results.’

Miss Air’s week there began with a medical consultation, where a doctor ‘immediately diagnosed stress’.

‘Blood tests and an applied kinesiology [body movement] session followed, after which I was prescribed my bespoke programme of treatments, therapies and meal plans,’ she told Country and Town House Maga- zine. The actress gushed about her daily vitamin infusions, which left her ‘glowing from the inside’, while the regular liver compresses were ‘just heavenly (you lie cocooned in bed with a hot water bottle)’. She said she was also taught how to chew more slowly and spent time hiking.

Vivamayr claims to have successfully treated patients with diabetes, insomnia, hormonal imbalance, adrenal fatigue and stress-related burnout.

Its website states: ‘We offer detox plans, holistic medical treatments and advanced complementary medicine in areas of outstanding natural beauty.’

Mr Middleton moved to Hong Kong last year to expand his marshmallow business Boomf. The couple confirmed they were taking a ‘sabbatical’ when he went to East Asia and she stayed in the UK with Freya, her 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

But the relationship appears to have survived the trial separation and the couple are now talking about marriage, and even children.

A source said last June: ‘Donna is very aware that she’s older than James. She wants to get married and have another child and she’s been very clear with James about this.

‘She needs to know James is in it for the long term, and he is.’

And in a separate interview, Miss Air said: ‘I’m open to more children the same way I’m open to most things. I have no set life plan, it can take you in all sorts of directions.’
