LIFE & ART The Danish Girl, 8pm, Sky Select SUBTLE biopic of married Danish painters Gerda and Einar Wegener, thoughtful­ly portrayed by Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne, following Einar’s transforma­tion into Lili. ON-DEMAND MOVIE Blood Father, BT TV Store, Sky Store, Virgin MEL GIBSON plays the estranged but protective father of a wayward daughter in this sharp twist on Taken. It’s a riveting performanc­e, powered by a more mature version of the intensity that marked him out as a star early in his career. WHODUNIT-LITE Castle, 9pm, 5 USA THE season six finale brings us to Castle and Beckett’s wedding, but not before the couple hit a roadblock straight out of a romcom. Beckett, it turns out, is legally married to someone else. After managing to avenge her dead mother last week, surely, this will be child’s play . . . POWERFUL DRAMA Roots, 9pm, BBC4 THE Revolution­ary War occurs in part two, and the British enter the story en masse — but are they the saviours of the slaves, as they initially appear to be? They won’t trust Kunta Kinte (Malachi Kirby, pictured with Emayatzy Corinealdi) with a gun, and grim events follow, but there’s reason for joy later on in this episode. UNDER PRESSURE 24: Legacy, 9pm, Fox THE cast is different, but the set-up is similar for this new spin-off, in which an ex-soldier (Corey Hawkins) finds himself on the run from terrorists. Miranda Otto plays the cool-headed outgoing chief of CTU, a potential ally, in a shoulder-knotting opener. DOWN-UNDER DRAMA The Kettering Incident, 10pm, Sky Atlantic A BEWITCHING veil of mystery sits over this new Australian drama, which follows a boozy doctor (The Night Manager’s Elizabeth Debicki) to her home town, 15 years after her pal vanished. She doesn’t receive a warm welcome, and sees strange lights in the woods. Or is that the drink? POLITICAL DRAMA Madam Secretary, 10pm, Sky Living MORGAN FREEMAN returns as the Chief Justice in season three of the classy drama. He also directs an opener that finds the Secretary of State (a nifty Tea Leoni) pressuring the President over climate change. TOUCHING FILM Miracles From Heaven, 12.50pm, 11.35pm, Sky Premiere FAITH-LED drama that you don’t have to be a devoted churchgoer to enjoy. Martin Henderson and Jennifer Garner are the parents of an ill little girl, whose prayers might just be answered.
