HIS body hooked up to countless tubes and machines, this heartbreaking image was released by Ben Jones’s family to warn against the dangers of drugs.

The 14-year-old was placed in a coma after his drink was allegedly spiked with a large dose of ecstasy.

Doctors warned his worried mother, Hayley Jones, 33, that her son could have died or been left with brain damage.

Although Ben is expected to make a full recovery, his family released the shocking image to deter others from taking drugs.

Last night his aunt, Abbie Everett, 22, said: ‘We are so glad that Ben is home and alive when we could have been organising a funeral.

‘ The doctors said that we really could have lost him. He had a little bit of alcohol in his blood but there was a large dose of ectasy.

‘We were by his bedside and all crying the whole time... People need to be aware that just one pill can kill.’

Ben was with a group of friends near Colwyn Bay, north Wales, when he fell ill at around 10pm on Saturday night.

The group had been drinking alcohol, but Ben left his drink unattended while he went into a shop. His friends realised something was wrong and carried him home, where his mother immediately called an ambulance.

He was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital, in Bodelwyddan, where doctors put him in a coma for three hours.

‘When he got home his brother Callum described Ben as being “dead in his arms” because they couldn’t get him awake. We think his drink was spiked,’ Miss Everett said.

‘I think a few of his friends had taken pills in the past and thought that they looked cool but after this experience, Ben said that he certainly doesn’t think that it is a cool thing to do.’

North Wales Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.

Inspector Chris Bell said: ‘To spike someone’s drink without their knowledge with something which is unwanted is very dangerous.’

‘Fortunately, the boy involved made a full recovery, but it could have been a very different story,’ he added.
