HOW YOU CAN TURN BACK THE YEARS

-

DAILY SUNSCREEN

WOMEN who used sunscreen more than 90 per cent of the time are 78 per cent more likely to be exceptional agers.

‘It’s how frequently you’re using it that’s key,’ says olay scientist dr Frauke Neuser. ‘using an SPF 15 product every day is more beneficial than using an SPF 50 product once a week.’

TRY: Adding daily sun protection to your skincare routine. use SPF 50 under foundation — it means you’re more likely to still have protection left at lunchtime or after work.

THINK POSITIVELY

WOMEN who had a positive attitude towards themselves were 30 per cent more likely to be exceptional skin-agers.

‘obviously this is a bit of a chicken and egg situation,’ says dr Neuser. ‘did the women have a positive view of themselves because they looked younger than their peers? or did they look younger because they felt better about themselves? My suspicion is it’s a bit of both.’

TRY: exercises that have been proven to improve happiness and self-worth, such as writing down three good things that happened to you every day.

MOISTURISE DAILY

WOMEN who suffer from dry skin are 30 per cent less likely to be exceptional agers.

TRY: Including foods in your diet that contain essential fatty acids, such as salmon, mackerel, avocados, flaxseeds, walnuts and pecans. Also moisturise daily — it doesn’t have to be an expensive brand, a simple one such as Cetaphil Moisturising Cream (£9.99, superdrug.com) does the job.

TAKE VITAMINS

WOMEN who take supplements are 18 per cent more likely to be super-agers.

TRY: Perfectil Platinum (£23.95 for 30, vitabiotics.com) — a trial showed it protected skin from dryness associated with winter.

GET MOVING

The research shows keen exercisers are 14 per cent more likely to be super-agers.

TRY: Anything that gets your heart pumping — a brisk walk, a regular swim, or a Zumba class, the important thing is that you do it regularly.
