FROM THE DAILY MAIL ARCHIVE MARCH 14, 1951 CRoyDoN Chamber of Commerce last night rejected a resolution that members should offer free lifts in their cars during the Festival of Britain.
Members said they had been suspected of ulterior motives so often whenever they offered lifts, particularly to girls and women, that they would refuse to have anything to do with the proposal.
