How online giants turn blind eye to race-hate and terror

-

GOOGLE

÷THE search giant refused a request to remove an anti-Semitic video claiming Jews perpetuated ‘white genocide’ from YouTube as it did not breach its guidelines. The clip features Ku Klux Klan founder David Duke making outlandish claims of Jews burning children alive. ÷GOOGLE admitted it may have made money from adverts on YouTube supporting terrorists. Videos of hate preacher Anjem Choudary, whose banned group radicalised Lee Rigby’s killer Michael Adebolajo, featured adverts for the game Call of Duty. ÷LAST year, it emerged that Google had to alter results for people searching for the Holocaust after criticism that it led them to neo-Nazi websites.

TWITTER

÷THE site failed to suspend users who posted vile attacks against German Chancellor Angela Merkel, London Mayor Sadiq Khan and anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller. A number of insulting and racially aggressive posts could still be seen on some of the sites last night. ÷TWITTER has also been accused of not doing enough to tackle trolling against women such as historian Mary Beard and MP Stella Creasy, who were threatened with bombs and knives in 013.

FACEBOOK

÷THE social media giant failed to delete a ‘Ban Islam’ page and one discussing whether the Holocaust happened. It said the pages did not violate its rules. ÷LAST week, a BBC investigation found Facebook initially failed to take down sexualised images and comments about children after a complaint. Of 100 posts featuring these things, 8 were deemed not to ‘breach community standards’. ÷FACEBOOK has also been accused of not doing enough to ensure users are over 13. Last year, CBBC Newsround revealed 49 per cent of under-13s have an account.
