Guardians of the NHS
ALL too often, courageous doctors and nurses who blow the whistle on unforgivably poor care in the NHS are bullied by hospital authorities, suspended from their jobs and then sacked. But to compound their misery, many find they cannot work elsewhere in the health service, effectively ending their careers. The suspicion is they have been blacklisted.
Today’s proposals from Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt will ban discrimination against whistleblowers trying to find a new job and protect those whose only concern is ensuring the wellbeing of their patients. The Mail welcomes the measures wholeheartedly.
