Going out on a date? That’ll cost you £129
FINDING a date is easier than ever in the age of online romance.
But the cost of a meal out, as well as a new outfit or catching a cab, may be putting strain on your wallet.
It has been revealed that Britons spend £129 on average on just one date.
That’s more than twice as much as our European counterparts, research has found – an average date in France or Germany costs £46, while a date in Italy costs £47 and £55 in Spain.
The amount covers both people and includes hidden costs such as transport, clothes, cosmetics, gifts – and even contraception.
Entertainment, restaurants, pubs and bars take up nearly half of the costs of Britons’ dates, the research for dating website Match showed.
But it’s good news for the economy because dating contributes £5.89billion per year, the study by the Centre for Economics and Business Research found.
It noted a growing UK trend towards dating at home rather than going out and suggested this is fuelled by the rise of digital entertainment subscription services and takeaways ordered online.
The total amount spent on eating at home during a date in the UK has increased by £153million over the last year, the research found.
