BLAST FROM THE PAST

WHEN it comes to hair care, forget trends and stick to what works. For me, it’s my Vidal Sassoon hooded hairdryer. I have thick, curly hair and this tames it. Twice a week, I pin it up in Velcro rollers, before covering my head with the special soft bonnet hood that links to the dryer. I sit like this for 15 minutes, until it has dried into defined curls. My husband finds it hilarious but it works.

FACIAL ADDICT

I AM often told that my skin is glowing. It’s actually easier than it looks — my secret is the 90-minute Clarins Tri-Active Facial: I get it every two months at The Beauty Rooms in Wall Heath, Dudley, and it can be personalised to suit your skin type. The effects are long-lasting, but I like to top it up with an Express Facial every month.

GO GLAM

IT IS important to keep making an effort as you get older. Luckily, my daughter works in the theatre, which gives me plenty of opportunities to get dressed up and go out. My go-to outfit is a silver sequin top and organza skirt from Coast. River Island is also great for a glamorous bright, sparkly look.

COUPLES DIETING

LAST year I had a shoulder operation, which meant I could no longer regulate my weight via exercise. Ironically, however, this helped me discover the best-kept secret to staying slim: diet with your partner. My husband and I joined Slimming World, and it is the best motivation, as you can support each other as a team 24/7. Since the New Year, we have both lost more than a stone.

BITESIZE HAPPINESS

STRESS is horribly ageing, both mentally and physically. I do everything I can to stay positive and keep a sense of perspective. It is important to plan fun things (even buying a lipstick), little and often, so you always have something to look forward to. In life, it is the small things that count.
