O’Brien helps to tame the Tigers

-

SALFORD RED DEVILS coach Ian Watson hailed Gareth O’Brien’s late drop goal which gave his side a 13-12 victory over Castleford Tigers in Super League. Until yesterday Castleford were undefeated in 2017, and when tries from Luke Gale and Greg Minikin gave them a 12-4 lead, they looked to have extended their unbeaten run. Salford had other ideas and hit back through a Ben MurdochMasila brace, before O’Brien cooly slotted the one-pointer with three minutes left to play. ‘He’s stepped up to the fore,’ Watson said of O’Brien, whose side move up to 5th. ‘I think, for the bigger picture, the team executed everything we spoke about.’ As Castleford lost, Wigan moved to the top of Super League after drawing 16-16 with Huddersfield.
