Lingard test for England
GARETH SOUTHGATE will check on Jesse Lingard’s fitness today after he suffered an ankle injury at Middlesbrough.
Lingard, who scored a wonder goal before limping off in the second half, has been allowed by Manchester United to report for international duty at St George’s Park ahead of Wednesday’s friendly with Germany.
England medics will assess the 24-year-old before making a final decision on his availability.
Southgate breathed a huge sigh of relief last night with no key withdrawals from the 26-man squad he named last week.
Kyle Walker and Ross Barkley will also be assessed today for minor knocks but both are expected to be available.
West Ham forward Michail Antonio, however, looks certain to miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury against Leicester.
Southgate is not expected to name a replacement given he announced a 26- man squad, rather than the usual 23.
