YOU HAVE YOUR SAY

EVERY week, Money Mail receives hundreds of your letters and emails about our stories. Here are some of the best from our report on the councils that fine drivers because their parking ticket has fallen off the dashboard . . .

COUNCILS THAT FINE YOU IF YOUR PARKING TICKET FALLS ON THE FLOOR

PARKING fees are too high to start with. To make you pay a fine when you have already forked out an extortionate amount to park is crazy. P. J., Birmingham. IF YOU pay, and can prove it, then the council claiming for loss is unjustified. It’s the council’s duty to provide a ticket that can’t fall off the dashboard easily, such as one that can be stuck to the windshield. V. C., London. I GOT a penalty for having my ticket the wrong way round. Clearly the parking attendants don’t like to turn their heads. I refused to pay. It was cancelled. B. P., Newcastle. IT STATES on the ticket that it must be displayed. When I lock the door, I check it can be seen. It’s not rocket science, is it? D. G., Cardiff. IF YOU think councils are hard, try complaining to privately run car park companies. The only way to appeal against them is by post so you have a record. M. U., Peterborough. MY COUNCIL has a text-based system. You text how many minutes you want. No scrabbling for change. If you’re still far from the car park when time is running out simply send a new text. L. E., Warminster, Wilts. COUNCILS rely on people not making a fuss. If they insist the ticket must be on display, they need to make it sticky. T. C., Coventry. I GOT a fine after shutting the car door caused the ticket to flip. I appealed. The council cancelled it, as I could prove I had a ticket. Their letter said if it happened again, they would not cancel it. G. M., Newcastle upon Tyne.
