Judge sacked for trolling critics and lewd online posts

- By Chris Greenwood Chief Crime Correspondent

A JUDGE who trolled his critics with anonymous posts and posted shocking comments on social media was sacked yesterday.

Jason Dunn-Shaw employed a pseudonym to lambast members of the public who questioned his decision to let a dangerous driver walk free.

The 52-year-old used a local newspaper website to attack those who said the woman should have been jailed, branding one a ‘donkey’ and another ‘stupid’.

The experienced criminal barrister also left comments about dogging and strippers on his Facebook account.

At the time, Mr Dunn-Shaw insisted his long-term partner Martin Boyd was behind the onslaught. But yesterday the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office confirmed it was the judge who was responsible for the ‘abusive’ comments.

A spokesman said an investigation found Mr Dunn-Shaw’s behaviour ‘fell below the standard expected of a judicial office holder’ and his actions and comments were ‘ not compatible with the dignity of judicial office’ and ‘suggested a lack of impartiality’.

Lord Chancellor Liz Truss and the Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas later ruled he must be sacked immediately.

Mr Dunn-Shaw presided over several cases as a part-time judge at crown courts in Canterbury and Maidstone.

The Mail previously revealed how he employed the alter ego ‘Querelle’ to hit back at critics of his decisions.

Within hours of handing a dangerous driver a suspended sentence, he wrote to one critic: ‘The judge had all kind of matters to balance. There are too many vindictive people who always post without thinking things through.’

He popped up again to support a judge who allowed an elderly carer who had stolen £57,000 to walk free. In one post he said: ‘ Give some rational explanation rather

‘Abusive comments’

than just banging a warty finger on your keyboard.’ It was then revealed Mr Dunn-Shaw had also made a series of eyewatering comments on Facebook. One, alongside a joke picture of a girl who finds reading difficult and decides to become a stripper, describes the situation as ‘the early days of most’ female MPs.

At the time, Mr Dunn-Shaw, once a member of one of the country’s most prestigious chambers, said he was not behind the comments.

Last night he no longer denied being behind the posts – but said he was still being treated unfairly as they were anonymous. The ‘dismayed’ former judge accused investigators of ‘behaving disgracefully’ and said he would appeal to the judicial ombudsman.
