The fun blue line

Policeman takes a break... to zoom along kids’ zipline

- By Chris Brooke

HE wasn’t a member of the flying squad. But the sight of a zipline in a children ’s playground proved too tempting for this policeman to resist.

The uniformed officer had reportedly been with a female colleague making inquiries following complaints about travellers in the area.

And on an otherwise quiet day in a sleepy village, he decided to have some impromptu fun.

The officer, who has not been named, jumped on the 35ft-long zipline in the playground in Great Bardfield, Essex, and gave it a go.

His antics were recorded by Jake Morris, who was walking his dog at the time. The 31-year - old said: ‘The officer saw me taking the picture and he just carried on regardless. He looked like he was having a great time. He was on the zipline for just one go – one end to the other . Then he got up and just looked really embarrassed with himself, as you would.

‘His colleague didn ’t look too happy to be fair but he had a great big smile on his face.

‘He was happy as Larry , bless him. Obviously having a go on the zipwire did him some good.’

The officer’s antics don ’t appear to have landed him in trouble with his bosses.

An Essex Police spokesman said: ‘Police officers are human and taking a couple of seconds out of what can be a highly stressful and dangerous job is an important part of welfare.’

Great Bardfield, near Braintree, has its problems but is not a hot - bed of crime. In January just seven crimes were reported, including a burglary, theft, criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.
