Should Charlie’s parents be granted an appeal?

-

LIKE many people in the UK, I was outraged by the court ruling to end Charlie Gard’s life. Doctors in the U. S. believe they can help. Thousands of people, myself included, have donated money to the appeal, as we believe Charlie has a right to be given a chance. The struggling NHS has surprisingly deep pockets when it comes to fighting its corner in court, but Charlie’s parents weren’t awarded legal aid. The court says an appeal will be granted only ‘under special circumstances’. I think the fact that ‘significant numbers of the public demand Charlie be given the right to discover if his life can be saved’ should be enough. MARJORIE GREEN, address supplied. ThE parents fighting for the life of Charlie Gard clearly love their son, but on occasions family members don’t get it right (Mail). Even the doctor who offered Charlie treatment in America acknowledged the infant is in the terminal stages of his illness. he is going to die, and no one has the right to cause suffering to an infant in a futile situation. Professionals must consider the minor’s quality of life. Charlie can experience none of the joys of life. If he’s going to pass away, then let him do so peacefully. EMILIE LAMPLOUGH, Trowbridge, Wilts. WE SHOULD fight and fight again for little Charlie Gard. His parents Chris and Connie have fought like tigers for their son, and with the help of Daily Mail supporters they have raised the money for his treatment. In this country, we treat children from all over the world. Now is the time that we need to look after one of our own. GRAHAM DAWSON, Liverpool.
