Promoted Cowleys target century

- TOM FARMERY

TRIUMPHANT management duo Danny and Nicky Cowley celebrated promotion to the Football League by setting themselves another Lincoln target — hitting 100 points by beating Maidstone tomorrow. ‘Then it will be about preparing for next season,’ said manager Danny, who will discover today how much money he will be given for new players. The club earned £3million from their run to the FA Cup quarter-finals and

director Clive Nates said: ‘We will hope to capitalise on this momentum. The FA Cup run provided us with a lot of money. The board will back Danny and Nicky as much as we can. We will set the tone not only for the year ahead but for years beyond that.’

Lincoln beat Macclesfield 2-1 to ensure their return to the League after a six-year absence and complete the challenge set when the Cowleys arrived from Braintree last summer. Danny was engulfed as hundreds of the 10,031-capacity crowd raced on to the Sincil Bank pitch at full-time. He said: ‘It’s been an unbelievable year. That was our 60th game this season. The players have earned the right to enjoy tonight.’
