Love cheat Tory urged to quit over MP affair
A CONSERVATIVE who cheated on his wife with a fellow MP is facing calls for deselection.
Jack Lopresti left his wife of 23 years after having an affair with fellow Tory Andrea Jenkyns – who has since given birth to their son.
Local Conservatives have now circulated an email claiming that Mr Lopresti is ‘not representing our constituency in a very good way’.
Last night he remained defiant, saying he had put his name forward to stand in the General Election set for June 8, and that ‘local party members will now decide’.
Tories in his constituency of Filton and Bradley Stoke, south Gloucestershire, are said to be seeking to replace him with another candidate.
The email, reportedly being sent around party members and posted on Twitter, states: ‘This is an opportunity for you to decide whether you wish Mr Lopresti to continue to be our candidate. There are many of us who feel very strongly that Mr Lopresti is not representing our constituency in a very good way.
‘ Locally there are several excellent people who are already on the CCHQ (Conservative Campaign Headquarters) approved candidate list and would love to have this opportunity to represent us.
‘We feel that one of these people should be given a chance.’
Mr Lopresti’s wife Lucy, with whom he has three children, was said to have been ‘devas- tated’ when the story of his affair broke in 2015.
She reportedly discovered her husband, 47, was cheating on her with former beauty queen Miss Jenkyns, 42, just before it was splashed on the front of a newspaper.
A few days before she apparently found out, the new couple were photographed wearing matching novelty Christmas jumpers for a lunch in Miss Jenkyns’ Yorkshire constituency of Morley and Outwood, where she ousted Labour’s Ed Balls in 2015.
The couple have since gone public and recently had a son, Clifford George, together.
Mrs Lopresti is a former nursery nurse and daughter of Tory grandee Baron Cope of Berkeley.
Mr Lopresti has held his seat since it was created in 2010 and has a majority of nearly 10,000. The local Conservative Association did not respond to requests for comment.
