Who really has the biggest bottom?

Ase the world gasps at Kim Kardashian’s behind, our cheeky study reveals the surprising truth about famous derrieres. Now use our chart to see how YOURS compares

-

Her famous posterior made headlines again last week, so absurdly large did it appear as Kim Kardashian strolled along the beach in a bikini. But wait for the real shock factor: what appears to be a simply enormous backside is actually, experts estimate, only 40cm (15.7in) wide. That’s just over the length of a standard school ruler. Hardly internet-breakingly huge. The reason it looks so large is more to do with Kim’s height and physique as she’s only 5ft 3in and is said to have a trim 26in waist.

‘The perceived size of a bottom is as much about height and waist size as weight; it’s proportion and ratio,’ explains Marc Pacifico, a plastic surgeon at the Purity Bridge Clinic in Tunbridge Wells. Using a calculation based on

a celebrity’s height, it’s possible to estimate each star’s widest point using photographs, and the result is a league of famous derrieres which are anything but large.

Waist-to-hip ratio is key. ‘This is the circumference of the waist divided by the circumference of the hips,’ says Marc. ‘It’s generally accepted that 0.7 is the ideal.’

It gives an hourglass figure, and a smaller number means the bottom will look larger. ‘Kardashian’s waist-to-hip ratio is 0.66, which is disproportionate,’ says Pacifico. The shape of a bottom can also vary. ‘There are four standard shapes: the round, the square, the A shape (often described as pear) and the V — an upside- down heart. The V is the most desirable, being round and pert.’

So how does your derriere compare? For a bit of fun, use a tape measure across your bottom from hip bone to hip bone or pull out these pages, place them flat on a chair and perch over the chart to see how you shape up . . .
