THIS IS WHAT 59 LOOKS LIKE

TRY MICRONEEDLING
AS I’VE got older, my regular skincare regime doesn’t cut it any more. I’ve been getting facials for ten years, but recently I tried microneedling — a puncture therapy, which plumps the skin via collagen stimulation. It was surprisingly painless, as they apply numbing cream. The effects were amazing: it lifted my jowls and smoothed creases around my eyes.
LOOKING FINE
MY hair is fine, so I tailor my styling regime to combat this. I have a short, sharp cut, every six weeks — it droops if left too long. I only need to wash it every four days and I just apply conditioner on the very ends to stop it going limp. To add body, I use Nioxin thickening spray, and Velcro rollers as part of my blow dry.
FIND YOUR FRUIT
DURING my career as a stylist I followed one rule: accentuate what you’ve got and disguise what you haven’t. If you feel uncomfortable in clothes, it’s because they’re not right for your shape. Many people aspire to an hourglass figure, but the reality is complex: we can be ‘apples’, ‘pears’, ‘strawberries’ (wide shoulders, narrow hips) or even ‘rhubarb’ (straight up and down) like me. Be honest. If you’re not sure where to start, consult a stylist.
TWO-MEAL RULE
I RARELY eat lunch. Instead, I opt for a filling breakfast of granola, yoghurt and fruit, or porridge in winter. This keeps me going until dinner, which is often fish and vegetables (I avoid carbohydrates and dairy). I also graze on nuts or hummus and tomatoes.
PICK NEW HOBBIES
I TOOK up skiing again aged 50 and after a 15-year gap, I was nervous. However, a positive attitude is key to making the most of life. It’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone; you are never too old for new hobbies. Don’t waste time on fear. LOOK good for your age? Tell us your secrets at inspire@dailymail.co.uk
