Happiest Daley of his life... Olympian Tom marries in maroon
THEY’VE been planning their wedding since they began dating four years ago.
At the weekend Olympic diver Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black finally took the plunge – and yesterday they released pictures to show what a colourful affair it was.
The couple, who wore maroon and navy Burberry suits, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at the grade II listed Bovey Castle in Devon – with fireworks, a string quartet and even a home-made cake.
Daley, 22, shared a photo on Instagram of himself and Texan film director Black, who is 20 years his senior, shortly after making their vows with the caption: ‘On 6th May 2017, I married the love of my life. We shared the day with 120 of our closest friends and family, from Texarkana to Plymouth! Thank you to everyone who made this weekend the most special weekend of our lives!’
A more romantic Black posted a picture of the pair embracing on a bridge, with the playful message: ‘So... what did you get up to this weekend?’ The ceremony ended with a string quartet playing as the London Gay Men’s Choir sang Marry You by Bruno Mars, while guests threw confetti.
The bronze medallist, who released a cookbook earlier this year, helped bake the wedding cake, which was described as having a ‘psychedelic’ design.
Guests also enjoyed Beef Wellington, sau- sage and mash and Eton mess for dessert. The evening ended with a bang as friends and family filed outside to watch an extravagant fireworks display at 10pm.
It will have been a poignant day for Daley, whose father Rob died of a brain tumour in 2011. According to a source guests were in tears as Daley’s mother Debbie paid a touching tribute to Rob during her speech. Daley came out as gay four years ago after meeting Black, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Milk in 2009. The pair got engaged in October 2015. Daley has previously said it only took a month of dating before they started discussing the possibility of marriage.
