Was King Charles III an irresponsible drama?

-

I WAS disgusted that the BBC drama King Charles III depicted the funeral of the Queen. I hope that none of the royals saw it.

YVONNE PHELPS, london nW4. I thought the drama entertained and posed an important question — what if a monarch used his constitutional powers to dismiss a government or refused to sign Acts of Parliament? the Prince of Wales has a record of taking a strong position on some matters and it could come to pass. After all, in Australia the Queen’s representative sacked the Prime Minister in this way. If half the population agreed with such a monarch and half were against, it would be a recipe for a huge crisis, if not civil war. We should think these things through.

SIMON CAMPBELL, Glasgow.

REGARDING the review of King Charles III by Christopher Stevens (Mail), the only ‘shameful, vile and pathetic tosh’ was written by Mr Stevens. My girlfriend and I both thought this play was brilliant, the Shakespearean verse an absolute joy to listen to. He describes it as a ‘republican fantasy’. Yes, that’s exactly what it was — a fantasy and a darn good one. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen throughout the whole 90 minutes. Wonderful television!

LARRY HORSFIELD, london Se7. This drama crossed the line. Do the BBC, the writer of King Charles III, the actors and all who took part in it have no shame and no soul for what they are doing to poor Prince harry? Do only the ratings matter? harry has been living with scandal for so long, it must be causing him more mental stress than anyone can imagine. But he fought for this country, has supported the men who have been victims of war’s trauma, and his whole life has been devoted to helping and caring for others less fortunate, without a thought for himself. he has to live with the legacy of the fact that his mother, a young innocent girl from a sheltered background, was thrown in at the deep end and left to get on with it and had a miserable life and death. the BBC should not have put this drama on about those alive today — putting words into their mouths they wouldn’t use. the Royal Family has had many ups and downs, but this episode is the last straw. they do not deserve this.
