SURGERY PUTS SANE OUT OF CONFEDERATIONS CUP
MANCHESTER CITY’S Leroy Sane will undergo nose surgery, ruling him out of Germany’s FIFA Confederations Cup squad. Sane, 21, will be unavailable for the event, which takes place in Russia between June 17 and July 2. He will also miss the friendly in Denmark on June 6 and the World Cup qualifier at home to San Marino on June 10.
ATHLETIC BILBAO have announced that coach Ernesto Valverde, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, is leaving the club. Valverde, the 53-year-old former Barca forward, is the front-runner to replace Luis Enrique. The Catalans are to unveil their new coach on Monday.

BURNLEY have released Joey Barton after he was handed an 18-month ban last month for breaking FA regulations on betting. The 34-year-old midfielder rejoined the club in January for the rest of the season despite the threat of a suspension hanging over him for placing 1,260 bets on matches between March 26, 2006 and May 13, 2016. Barton, who was also fined £30,000 and warned about his future conduct, plans to appeal against the ‘excessive’ punishment.
DAVID MOYES would be interested in the Scotland manager’s job should it become available. The 54-year-old quit as boss of Sunderland on Monday and is currently on holiday with his wife in America. Moyes, however, would be the front-runner if Gordon Strachan were to leave in the coming months.
