My role could not be more exciting
What’s the most unusual request you’ve had from a guest? I was once tasked with finding an old friend of a guest from 30 years ago with only a first name to go on. It took me a while but I succeeded and the friends were reunited. I also sourced a bespoke saké-flavoured chocolate from an internationally renowned pastry chef in Japan. This chocolate was a gift to wow a guest’s in-laws when asking for their daughter’s hand in marriage. Your favourite local restaurant? Frenchie in Covent Garden. The menu echoes its Parisian sister restaurant. An array of simple, fresh dishes and a team that are warm and engaging – go there and you’ll want to go back! Favourite celeb guest you hosted? At The Savoy we have some very interesting and high-profile guests. At a previous hotel I was lucky enough to meet a star from The Hangover; the film had just been released, and I had just returned from Bangkok on holiday. We had an interesting chat about the city with reference to the film and location. What’s the number one must-see sight in your city/resort/ region? As a concierge, I’m constantly exploring London, learning what this amazing city has to offer. I have to be up to date and knowledgeable about new openings and theatre productions, as The Savoy is in the heart of theatreland. A personal favourite is Sir John Soane’s Museum. It is just up the road in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. What the best advice you have ever been given? ‘A life without challenges is boring’ – this is so true! As a concierge my role could not be more exciting, full of challenges, surprises and spontaneity every day.
