Hi-tech headstone brings dead to life
FOR those looking forward to an eternal rest free of smart technology, it may come as a blow to find that the digital age can now follow them into death.
A firm in Slovenia is selling the world’s first digital tombstone, with a 48in touchscreen allowing mourners to view pictures and videos of their loved-ones, as well as pages of text.
The £2,588 device looks like any other gravestone from afar, but standing in front of its sensors for a few seconds brings the display to life. Families can put anything they want on it, but when no one is around it will just show a person’s name and their birth and death dates. Milan Zorman, of the University of Maribor in Slovenia, is working on a mobile phone app for the headstone to let mourners hear the soundtrack of any videos being displayed.
