Boy, three, dies after falling into holiday villa pool

A BRITISH boy aged three has died in hospital after nearly a week in intensive care following a swimming pool accident in Spain.

The unnamed youngster was found by his parents after falling into the pool at the family villa in the Costa Blanca resort of Denia on Wednesday of last week.

His father tried to save him before police reached the scene and they managed to get his heart beating again using a defibrillator after discovering he had swallowed a lot of water and didn’t have a pulse when they arrived.

The boy was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a specialist unit in Valencia. Health officials confirmed he died there on Tuesday.

Local reports said the boy was breathing relatively normally but died after failing to overcome brain damage suffered while he was under water.

His mother was treated for a panic attack after the incident.
