Pledge to fix faulty phones in just a day

-

DIXONS Carphone is ramping up its same-day mobile phone repair service to keep customers coming back to stores.

The electrical goods giant already offers the ability to fix a phone in some shops, but wants a bigger bite of the market.

Chief executive Seb James said: ‘Customers want a proper job done, at a good price, and fast.’

Offering repairs is part of Dixons Carphone’s attempt to set itself apart from its rivals.

It has already said delivery times will be a battlefield as it fights Amazon and Argos.

The move comes as Dixons Carphone reported sales growth of 4pc in the year to April 29, while UK sales also rose 4pc. James said sales would have been higher but were hit by the delayed launch of Samsung’s flagship phone, the S8.

The 51-year-old said UK shoppers had not been deterred by Brexit uncertainty, adding: ‘Despite a lively political backdrop, we have been able to continue to grow our business and maintain very high levels of customer satisfaction across the group.

‘If you provide the right proposition to customers they will keep showing up and buying stuff.’

The company’s shares rose by 4.7pc, or 15.4p, to 342p.
