Jeremy under a commie flag

- By Deputy Political Editor

THE Labour leader used a gathering of communists to demand that Britain withdraw from Nato and scrap its nuclear weapons, it can be revealed.

Jeremy Corbyn delivered the call for disarmament while standing under a hammer and sickle on a banner at the Communist Party of Britain’s 40th annual congress.

The gathering took place in his Islington North constituency in 1989, when the Morning Star reported: ‘ He pledged his unwavering commitment to unilateral disarmament, declaring that “we can make a start and set an example by removing all nuclear weapons from this country”. And he urged the pressing need for British withdrawal from Nato.’

The event was aimed at forming a plan to remind workers of the ‘role of the Marxist-Leninist’ party.

James Cleverly, an Army reservist seeking re-election as Tory MP for Braintree, said last night: ‘ This shows yet again that Jeremy Corbyn is simply not fit to be Prime Minister. He has been cosying up to communists for years, and they would be by his side to disarm our military and abandon our allies if he makes it to Downing Street.

‘Corbyn’s obsession with scrapping Trident and ditching Nato would weaken our security and encourage our enemies. But there is a real risk of this happening.

‘The Government only needs to lose six seats and we will have a hung parliament with Corbyn as PM propped up the SNP and Lib Dems, cheered on by the communists.’

The Communist Party last month backed Mr Corbyn by pledging not to put up election candidates.

It said a Labour victory would be an ‘ essential first step’ toward the dream of a ‘Left-led’ government.
