HER DESIGN DOS AND DON’TS

-

DO . . .

PUT mirrors everywhere. ‘They’re glamorous and reflect so much light into a room,’ says Celia. ‘I once mirrored an entire wall behind a bed.’

GO MAD with lighting. ‘Lamps create a mood. I once did a bespoke crystal light with a two-metre circumference. It was like the sun!’

MIX textures. ‘If you have a wooden floor, add a rug and glass or metal furniture. Decorate a leather sofa with faux fur and velvet cushions.’

GIVE a room a ‘star piece’. ‘I once did a 1.5metre wide gold ice bucket with semi-precious stones. My clients drank a lot.’

TAKE everything out and start again. ‘You shouldn’t have to dodge things in a room. Don’t cluster furniture around a door or window.’

DON’T . . .

1. PUT art on busy wallpaper. ‘You need a blank canvas. If you put a colourful painting on a leopardprint wall, it’s hard to know where to look.’

OVER-CLUTTER. ‘You should be able to explain why each object is there, otherwise it’s messy.’

PAINT a room a strong colour. ‘I’ve lost count of the number of times someone paints everything red and then hates it. Make sure you test it on accessories first.’

CHOOSE minimalism. ‘It’s awful if you’re not that sort of person. You won’t feel comfortable.’

HOARD. ‘My husband does this, and I have to throw things out secretly when he’s away. He keeps things like old doors, in case they “come in handy”. They never do.’
