Cahill hooked on winning

- MATT BARLOW

GARY CAHILL admits he was close to joining Arsenal before fate intervened and got him hooked on trophies at Chelsea. Cahill has won every major honour inside five years and will lead out his team at Wembley today as Chelsea chase a league and FA Cup Double. ‘It was close,’ said Cahill. ‘It broke down on the fee, nothing to do with me. ‘Chelsea came in after that and the rest is history.’ Cahill, 31, joined from Bolton in January 2012 and within five months had won the Champions League and FA Cup. A year later, he added the Europa League. Then the League Cup and Premier League in 2015. ‘It becomes like an addiction to win more,’ said the England centre half. ‘When you have that feeling of winning a trophy you just want it again and again. ‘Outside my family and my kids being born, it’s the best feeling ever and it was again when we lifted the Premier League trophy the other day. ‘Your career is short and you want to achieve as much as you can. If you have no goals then what is the point of playing?’ This season Cahill has thrived under Antonio Conte and can finish it off in style by beating the team who tried to buy him. ‘The FA Cup for me, it’s what I used to watch growing up. People say to me the shine has gone off the Cup and I reply: “Are you crazy?” It’s the best cup you can win.’
