I got too fat to wear Poldark’s costumes, admits Aidan

- Daily Mail Reporter

HIS muscular torso set female viewers’ pulses racing. But Aidan Turner has revealed that his Poldark costumes had to be adjusted last year after he put on weight.

The 33-year-old, who plays Ross Poldark in the hit period drama which returns next month on BBC1, took time off after becoming ‘a little bit burnt out’ and travelled abroad to visit friends. On his return he struggled to fit into the outfits. He said: ‘I showed up a few pounds too heavy and they had to split the back of the waistcoat.

‘It was too tight here (the stomach) and not tight enough here (his upper body). His physicality is part of who he is. It’s something I can’t get too lazy about. It’s boring but I have to do it.’

Turner told Radio Times he doesn’t see himself as a sex symbol and neither does his family.

‘My mum’s obviously a big fan, but there’s no shrines to Aidan Turner around the house,’ he said.

A scene in series one in which Turn- er’s character appears topless while scything was voted TV moment of the year at the National Television Awards last year, transforming Turner into a national heart-throb.

Turner recently announced he would be keeping his clothes on for the upcoming series three and the only glimpse of Ross Poldark’s flesh will be ‘topless sleeping’.
