Clooney on tight leash before birth of his twins

-

GEORGE Clooney’s wife banned him from attending his own humanitarian ‘Oscars’ – because the event was too close to the arrival of their twins.

Clooney, 56, is co-founder of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, which is given annually to an individual whose actions have saved countless lives and advanced humanitarian causes.

The actor co-chairs the selection committee, which awarded this year’s £850,000 prize to Dr Tom Catena, the only doctor for 750,000 patients in a war zone in Sudan.

Clooney video-called the audience at the ceremony on Sunday in Yerevan, Armenia, and explained his barrister wife Amal, 39, would never forgive him if he missed the birth.

He said: ‘I really would have been there but if I came and my wife had twins while I was away I could never come home.’

The twins were originally due in the first week of June but recent US reports claim they are expected to arrive early ‘any day now’.

Dr Catena, 53, carries out all major surgery in the Nuba Mountains, including removing shrapnel, amputating limbs and delivering babies.

Bomb victims often walk for a week to be treated by him. He sees up to 500 patients a day and is permanently on call.
