DARK DRAMA
If JIMMy McGoVern has a sense of humour, there’s little to be found d in his latest compelling g but bleak six-part drama. It’s set in an impoverished workingclass community, where single mum christina (Anna friel, pictured) is struggling to feed her three kids and ailing mother — ‘I don’t know anyone who isn’t skint.’ When she comes to the notice of parish priest father Michael Kerrigan (an understated and cleverly cast Sean Bean), he quickly spots that she’s ‘in pain’ and offers counsel. But soon, a tragic event leaves this troubled man of the cloth on the horns of a moral dilemma. (Postponed from 23rd May)
