SCIENTISTS have grown a nose in a lab known as ‘the body parts store’ at UCL’s Department of Nanotechnology. Patients’ own stem cells can be used with synthetic materials to create different body parts. It’s also possible for new body parts to be created by using a 3-D printer. These breakthroughs offer hope to those who’ve been disfigured, have lost limbs or are incapacitated because some part of their body has just worn out. For PRINT ME A NEW BODY (RADIO 4, 11AM) Jolyon Jenkins, working methodically through his body, hears from scientists about what can and what can’t be replaced.
