DON’T DITHER ON TRANSFERS, WENGER

- SAMI MOKBEL

ARSENAL will urge Arsene Wenger at today’s crunch board meeting to be more assertive in the transfer market. The Gunners boss will discover his future, with the hierarchy set to propose a number of changes to the way Wenger runs the club. He met owner Stan Kroenke yesterday ahead of the meeting. The board feel that the Frenchman lacks conviction in bringing in potential transfers and want to avoid the scenario of recent years when they were frantically signing players on the final day of the summer window. For example, with a deal agreed to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid in 2013, Wenger dropped his interest in the Argentine to pursue Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. They ended up with neither — signing Mesut Ozil from Real on deadline day. Also on the agenda will be the proposed contract renewals of Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. Summer transfer business will also be discussed. Malaga pair Sandro Ramirez, a forward, and midfielder Pablo Fornals — both 21 — are emerging as serious targets.
